The Latest on the trial of a Utah man accused of running an opioid ring (all times local): 12:30 p.m. Lawyers for a man accused of running a multi-million-dollar opioid ring out of his suburban Salt Lake City basement say he was involved in drugs but wasn't capable of running such a major operation. Defense attorney Greg Skordas said Monday that 29-year-old Aaron Shamo has a learning disability and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder that make him incapable of orchestrating the complicated scheme that prosecutors laid out in court documents. Trial opens for Utah man accused in major opioid ring

Lawyers for a man accused of running a multi-million-dollar opioid ring out of his suburban Salt Lake City basement said Monday he was involved in drugs but wasn't capable of running such a major operation. Aaron Shamo, 29, has a learning disability and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder that make him incapable of orchestrating the complicated scheme that prosecutors laid out in court documents, defense attorney Greg Skordas said during his opening statement at Shamo's trial. Prosecutors say several people will testify that Shamo ran the ring that mailed opioids laced with fentanyl to places across the U.S. and resulted in...

LG trademarks V60S and K50S names ahead of IFA

The LG G8S ThinQ was released months after the regular G8 and it’s a slight downgrade. It has a slightly larger screen 6.2” vs. 6.1”, but with 1080p resolution. And while it gained stereo speakers, battery charging support took a small step back. The camera setup features both upgrades and downgrades. Here’s the head to head comparison. The LG V30S was a clear upgrade over the V30 (though a minor one). The “S” naming scheme doesn’t strictly mean an upgrade, but isn’t necessarily a downgrade either. So, with two more “S” phones on the way – LG V60S and LG...

Google, Apple, Microsoft reportedly ignoring safety pleas to add rail crossings to maps

Google, Apple, Microsoft, and other tech companies have ignored recommendations from federal safety authorities to add rail crossings to their respective digital maps, according to a report in Politico. The initial request was made in 2016, after a commuter train crashed into a truck in California, killing an engineer and injuring dozens. But in the years since, the big map providers have failed to take action, the report states. The inaction by tech companies is angering safety advocates, who note hundreds of people die in collisions at rail crossings every year in the US. Those crossings could be made less...

A Tesla owner implanted the RFID chip from her Model 3’s keycard into her arm

Tesla’s Model 3 doesn’t come with a physical key. Instead, it can be unlocked and turned on with a smartphone, a car-shaped key fob, or a keycard that comes in handy if you don’t have a fob or your phone dies. One creative driver figured out a way to make sure that she can always unlock and start her Model 3: she implanted the RFID tag from the keycard into her forearm. Amie DD is a software engineer and self-described “maker of things.” In a video, she explained that she had implanted an RFID tag in her arm years ago,...
