Minutes before the iPhone reveal, Apple CEO Tim Cook tweets that something is missing

Minutes before Apple is set to kick off it's biggest hardware event of the year, Apple CEO Tim Cook appears to be missing something very important.  On Wednesday, just five minutes before the Apple event was scheduled to begin, Cook accidentally sent a Tweet that said, "No. Who can get it here quickly?" The Tweet has since been deleted, but Business Insider screengrabbed it just in time:  Tim Cook/Twitter The tweet was likely intended as a direct message on Twitter instead of a post that could be viewed by the general public. Business Insider is covering the Apple event live...

From Fellini to Ferrante: the cinematic vision of My Brilliant Friend

The first episode of is likely to cause both great excitement and deep anxiety. Excitement because Ferrante is a writer with an almost evangelical following. Her quartet of “Neapolitan novels” have sold close to a million copies in the UK, and 1.8m in Italy. When readers finish one book, they tend to devour all four, mesmerised by the taut depiction of a poor suburb and its characters over the course of many decades. But that invented world of a few families living cheek-by-jowl in postwar Italy is both exotically foreign and yet - with its universal themes of poverty, violence,...

Streaming: a century of Robin Hood on film

“Another one?” spoke a small, clear voice a few rows behind me at the cinema, as the trailer for the new, pumped-up, down-with-the-kidz Robin Hood got noisily under way. Yes, less than a decade since Hollywood’s last, unsuccessful attempt to make the man in fawn tights a blockbusting superhero, they’ve returned to that well, continuing a long, patchy big-screen history for the socialist-minded adventurer. I haven’t yet seen how young, perky Taron Egerton fares with the bow and arrow, but in the event that the finished film, out next week, doesn’t improve on its , the good news is that...

‘Actually, I’m more of a Frasier person’: dismantling 2018's cultural snobbery

The Good Place What Glossy American sitcom du jour from the producer behind The Office (US) and .Why everyone loves it has never put in a bad performance in his life; every member of the cast is basically a model; the conceit – that four complicated characters have died and have to puzzle out the afterlife – is better than the usual “six quirky people sort of live together in New York!”The case against The Good Place is very wholesome and interesting and nice, and in this dark bleak world there’s a lot to be said for having a mild,...

Germany dragging heels over Nazi looted art: World Jewish Congress

German museums and cultural institutions are stalling the identification and return of Nazi-looted art, the president of the World Jewish Congress said on Sunday. Ronald S. Lauder told the Welt am Sonntag newspaper that Germany is failing to fulfill its responsibility under the Washington Principles on Nazi-Confiscated Art, a non-binding declaration adopted by 44 states in December 1998. Lauder said Germany is trailing behind the United States, Austria and Britain in the digitization of its art collections. The US has extended — to six years from the actual discovery — a federal statute of limitations for seeking restitution of such...

The Little Drummer Girl recap: episode four – fiction and reality collide

SPOILER ALERT: This recap contains spoilers for episode four of The Little Drummer Girl. You can read previous recaps . As this latest Le Carré adaptation has hopscotched around the UK and Europe of 1981, opinions have varied over how effectively it has evoked the sights, sounds and atmosphere of its period setting. Even the most sceptical viewer would have to admit, though, that the opening stretch of episode four truly captured the powder keg essence of a 1980s static caravan holiday in Somerset: periods of overcast boredom punctuated by big shouting matches. After the relief of surviving her first...

Jessie J Wants Everyone To Stop Comparing Her To Jenna Dewan

Channing Tatum and Jessie J seem to have been low-key seeing each other for a while, but have finally gone Instagram public this week. And since singer Jessie and the Magic Mike actor have been linked to one and other, the Bang Bang singer has been compared to his ex-wife of nine years, actress and dancer, Jenna Dewan.  Well, Jessie has had enough of the comparisions, and posted a lengthy Instagram message, asking everyone to stop.  "I rarely, but sometimes see that my name is involved in stories online that I do not agree to. I often ignore them as...
