The next Apple Watch update will be officially released on September 17th

Apple announced its new Apple Watch Series 4 today and along with it came the release date for watchOS 5. It’ll be out on September 17th for all Apple Watch users. The OS was previewed at Apple’s WWDC developers conference this summer, which teased new features including more workouts, competitive activities with friends, automatic exercise detection, and personal coaching to help wearers beat their friends at activities. Users can also listen to podcasts from the Watch and interact with other Watch owners through a new walkie-talkie feature. (It calls over FaceTime Audio, as The Verge reported earlier this year.) There...

Cybersecurity firm: More Iran hacks possible as US sanctions loomed

An Iranian government-aligned group of hackers launched a major campaign targeting Mideast energy firms and others ahead of US sanctions on Iran, a cybersecurity firm said Tuesday, warning further attacks remain possible as America re-imposes others on Tehran. While the firm FireEye says the so-called “spear-phishing” email campaign only involves hackers stealing information from infected computers, it involves a similar type of malware previously used to inject a program that destroyed tens of thousands of terminals in Saudi Arabia. The firm warns that raises the danger level ahead of America re-imposing crushing sanctions on Iran’s oil industry in early November....

Not for all: The first uncensored hardcore porn game launched on Steam

This is probably the first uncensored adult game on the Steam gaming platform. Negligee: Love Stories was approved for being listed on Steam last week, but the sexually explicit adventure game was immediately banned by several countries around the word — 28 to be precise, and probably counting. The developer, Dharker Studios, states that it must abide by the laws for specific countries and that the restrictions are the downside of being the poster child for the first adult game on Steam, reports PCGamer. “Several of the restricted countries banned the game which prompted us to realise that we can't...

Bill Gates rallies for more global education assessments data

Bill Gates is rallying behind school quality in developing nations with a push for more assessment data, a new initiative that links the Microsoft co-founder’s signature US education priorities with his more prominent global philanthropy work. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation as the world’s largest philanthropy issued its latest “Goalkeepers” report on Tuesday, urging for more comparable student assessment data worldwide and help getting girls through their schooling. “The world, in education, focused a lot on access, which is super important, and in most countries made huge progress on gender-equal access, but now there needs to be a focus...

Renault-Nissan to use Android system in its dashboards

The Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance, one of the world's top-selling automakers, has decided to go with Google's Android operating system to run its dashboard information and entertainment features. The change, which won't roll out until 2021, means that users will get Android features such as Google Maps, Waze and the hands-free Google Assistant, without having to connect a phone. They'll also be able to download auto-specific apps, such as those that find and pay for parking spaces, from the Google Play Store. It's a sign that automakers are starting choose sides in infotainment software, deciding between developing their own systems or going...

Now, turn off your teen's phone with Google's 'Family Link'

With Google's Family Link, parents can now set limits, lock the device when they feel it's time for a break, and even approve or block apps from being downloaded from Google Play store. Family link also allows parents to locate the kids through their devices. According to The Verge, the Family link is available only for Android users and for anyone with an existing Google account. While it was originally meant for kids under 13, it can also be used for older people. However, if used for anyone over 13, both parties must give consent before using the technology. In...
