Nine-Fairfax deal to proceed after shareholders vote for takeover

Fairfax shareholders have overwhelmingly backed a takeover by Nine Entertainment, paving the way for both companies to merge by the end of this year.At the Fairfax annual general meeting today, 88.6 per cent of votes were in favour of the deal.Antony Catalano, the former head of real estate website Domain, tried to block the deal by submitting a last-minute bid for 19.9 per cent of the newspaper publisher's shares on Sunday evening.However, the Fairfax board knocked back Mr Catalano's offer because it was not considered to be a "superior proposal".Mr Catalano said he would take legal action to prevent the...

Mumbai: The rupee declined by 29 paise to 70.32 against the US dollar in opening trade on Friday as crude oil prices firmed up and US-China trade related concerns weighed on investor community. Forex traders said, besides the US-China trade concerns, foreign fund outflows also kept pressure on the Indian rupee. Tokyo: Oil prices rose again on Friday and were on track for the first weekly gains this month, as rising tensions in the Middle East stoked fears of supply disruptions. New Delhi: India's second largest IT firm Infosys on Thursday said it proposes to grant stock incentives worth Rs 10 crore to CEO Salil Parekh, as part of an new programme that aims to incentivise employees for performance.
