Germany: Draft bill to ban plastic bags on the way

The German Environment Ministry has drafted a bill which would ban single-use plastic bags. Environment Minister Svenja Schulze announced on Friday that she plans for the bill to become law in 2020. "I believe that we have the support of the people of Germany," she said. "The time is right for a plastic bag ban." The Social Democrat politican says that businesses that violate the new regulation could face a fine of €100,000 ($110,000). Nissan CEO Saikawa resigns amid pay probe

Nissan CEO Hiroto Saikawa on Monday announced he would stand down next week, after acknowledging that he had received dubious income, the automaker has said. Saikawa, 65, who took over as CEO only in 2017, is set to leave the Japanese multinational automobile manufacturer on September 16. Premier League champions Manchester City has assembled football's first billion-dollar squad, according to figures released on Tuesday by the CIES Football Observatory. British Airways (BA) pilots on Tuesday refused to end their unprecedented 48-hour walkout early.
