The rise of the virtual restaurant

He also breads chicken cutlets for another of his restaurants, Red Ribbon Fried Chicken. He flips beef patties on the grill for a third, TR Burgers and Wings. And he mixes frozen custard for a dessert shop he runs, Ice Cream Custard.Of Lopez’s four operations, three are “virtual restaurants” with no physical storefronts, tables or chairs. Internet burns fashion designer for body-shaming comments

Designer Falguni Peacock made an insensitive comment during an interview about plus-size brides. In the interview, which took place during India Couture Week, the designer said that she would ask plus-size brides to lose a couple inches and come back in a few months to get their bridal outfit fitted. In addition to this, she also said she would recommend plus-sized brides to wear a long blouse, no deep necks as it wouldn’t “flatter their figure.” She also said she would suggest them to wear a flared lehenga and not a fitted one as “fitted won’t really work when you...

IPCC report: The world gets hungrier, but the land is exhausted – from us and from climate change

The earth's population is growing and, with it, consumption. This trend will only increase in the near future, but the planet's resources are limited, and land isn't an exception. The stark connection between how land is used and its effect on climate change is the focus of the latest report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), published on August 8. At the center of the report is how, in a sort of vicious circle, unhealthy soils and forests exacerbate climate change, while climate change, in turn, negatively impacts the forests and soils' health. The IPCC's findings are the...

50 years after Woodstock, photos by overlooked shooter shown

As Jerry Garcia jammed and Janis Joplin wailed, Mark Goff captured images at Woodstock that no one ever saw. The 22-year-old photographer for an underground paper took hundreds of pictures of the performers and the crowd that weekend. Some were published, and the negatives from that weekend were filed away at his Milwaukee home and barely mentioned as Goff raised two daughters, changed careers and, last November, died of cancer. Dozens of Goff's Woodstock shots are being displayed 50 years later thanks to efforts by artist Nick Clemente, who wants to shine a light on the little-known photographer. For the...
