LG V50 ThinQ 5G lands at Verizon on June 20 for $999.99

Verizon is releasing the LG V50 ThinQ 5G on June 20. The carrier is continuing to expand its roster of 5G capable smartphones, and this will actually be the cheapest yet. It's still a 5G handset, though, so "cheap" in this case means $999.99 full retail. Of course you can use installments to pay $41.66 per month for two years instead. For a limited time, Verizon is offering up to $650 off if you port-in and opt for the device payment plan, $200 of that being a prepaid card and up to $450 is what you can get with an...

OxygenOS 9.5.8 rolls out to the OnePlus 7 Pro with May security patch, better touch sensitivity

OnePlus is rolling out software updates to its latest smartphones like crazy these days. Just yesterday it pushed out a new build for the OnePlus 7 Pro 5G, and now it's time for the 4G version of that phone to get yet another update. We're talking about OxygenOS 9.5.8 for the OnePlus 7 Pro, freshly baked and on its way to a unit near you. That said, this is a staged rollout as usual, so it will only reach a limited number of users today, with a broader OTA rollout planned in a few days, if no show-stopping bugs are...

Huawei P30 Pro update adds DC dimming, ultra-low latency Bluetooth, improves photo quality

The future of big software updates for Huawei's smartphones may be uncertain because of the Trump administration's measures in its ongoing trade war with China, but the company is still pushing out small improvements to its smartphones. Case in point: the P30 Pro, which is now getting EMUI 9.1.0.178. This update brings with it the DC dimming feature that is becoming all the rage in the smartphone world. Basically what this does is dim the OLED display by regulating voltage, and not by using pulse-width modulation. This should help reduce eye strain at night. Moving on, the new build comes...

The upcoming Huawei nova 5 will feature a new 7nm Kirin SoC, believed to be the Kirin 810 which will replace the popular Kirin 710 used in current Huawei midrangers. The other 7nm chipset in Huawei’s lineup is the Kirin 980 which made its debut on the Mate 20 series last year and powers the P30 family as well. We are already familiar with the design and specs of...

New Motorola One Pro images show quad camera, three more colors

Back in April, CAD-based renders of Motorola’s first quad-camera phone surfaced, showing a blue-gray paint job. Now additional images have been released, adding three more colors to the palette. The camera hump is rectangular, giving equal space to the four lenses (arranged in a square) and the Motorola logo. There’s not enough room for the camera flash here, so it’s off to the side of the hump. New Motorola One Pro renders The phone should launch as the Motorola One Pro, though it was originally meant to be part of the Moto Z4 line-up. The device will have a 6.2”...

Intel, Xilinx and Qualcomm argue in favor of lifting the Huawei ban

Intel and Xilinx argued against the Huawei ban during a meeting with the Commerce Department that took place in late May. Both companies make FPGAs (Intel acquired Xilinx rival Altera). Huawei used Xilinx FPGAs in its “accelerated cloud servers” to do real-time HEVC encoding for streaming video as well as speed up machine learning and data analytics by 10-50x. Qualcomm argued in favor of Huawei too, unsurprisingly. Earlier this year after the two companies reached an interim licensing agreement. Like Apple, Huawei was reluctant to pay the patent fees but later agreed to pay Qualcomm $150 million a quarter. As...

The second beta of iOS 13 has arrived with a helpful feature that will prevent forgotten subscriptions from costing you money. Keeping the subscription is good if you use the service on other devices or through your browser. Otherwise the “manage subscription” button will help you cancel it. This pop-up message even tells you when the subscription is set to automatically renew itself, so you know how long you can keep using it before...
