The next public holiday could be sooner than you think

Already hankering for another break? Good news, the next public holiday is likely to be in weeks. The Hijri or Islamic New Year is predicted to fall about 31st August. That’s dependent on a moon sighting and hasn’t yet been confirmed by the UAE government. However, it could mean a long weekend at the end of August, as that date is a Saturday. French hospitality company Barrière Group is turning the art museum’s restaurant into a branch of Fouquet’s. Known for its links to the world of art and culture, Fouquet’s already has branches in Paris, Cannes and Toulouse in France and Marrakech in Morocco. Michelin star chef Pierre Gagnaire, head chef and owner of the renowned Pierre Gagnaire restaurant, will create a menu reflecting local tastes and including a number of Fouquet’s signature dishes. Abu Dhabi Children’s Library to open in September

The date has been set for the opening of the Abu Dhabi Children’s Library and theatre at Al Hosn’s Cultural Foundation. The new addition to the refurbished Qasr Al Hosn complex will open on 4th September 2019, Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi has announced. Spread over three floors, the Abu Dhabi Children’s Library covers 5,250 square metres and features facilities divided into several age-appropriate, social spaces. Space beckons for Emirati cuisine

The Mohammed bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC) has announced that astronaut Hazzaa Al Mansouri will host a traditional Emirati food night in space. Hazzaa will become the first Emirati astronaut to venture into orbit and is scheduled to set foot on the International Space Station (ISS) on 25th September this year via the Russian Soyuz MS-15 spaceflight. E-scooters rentals roll out in the capital

European micro-mobility company Circ has confirmed its launching e-scooter rental service in the capital and here’s how you can get your roll on. Download the Circ mobile app to unlock and operate the 100 percent electric scooters, pay the rental fee and access to safety instructions, navigational tips and tutorials. The app is available for Android and iOS phones. Rides are charged at AED 3 for unlocking, and AED 1 per minute of using. What you need to know: From 10th to 13th August, Mafraq Hospital will operate as normal, with clinic visits open from 10am to 10pm. Sheikh Khalifa pardons prisoners ahead of Eid

Nearly 700 prisoners have been pardoned in the run-up to Eid Al Adha. The inmates – who were serving sentences in Abu Dhabi for various offences – will be released under the orders of His Highness Khalifa bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. He also pledged to settle their debts to “provide prisoners with an opportunity to start a new life and alleviate their families’ hardship,” government news agency Wam reported.
